🎉 A Landmark 200th Anniversary Celebration

On Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, the village of Neilston marked a major milestone—the 200th edition of its much-loved Agricultural Show. Held at Holehouse Farm, Neilston, G78 3LE, the event welcomed record crowds, glorious livestock, and new features that honoured tradition while embracing innovation.

🌿 A Proud Rural Legacy

Dating back to the early 1800s, Neilston’s show was born from a light-hearted rivalry between two farmers debating which of their prized bulls was best. Though the original winner is long forgotten, the legacy of that first gathering lives on in what has become one of Scotland’s longest-running agricultural celebrations.

🐂 National Spotlight – Highland Cattle Society Show

This year’s show hosted the Highland Cattle Society UK National Show, bringing over 50 Highland cattle from across the UK to the ring. It was a huge honour for Neilston and a major draw for visitors, who admired the iconic breed and met expert breeders face-to-face.

Other highlights in the livestock sections included Clydesdales, Shetland ponies, and top-quality sheep exhibits—proving that the traditional heart of the show is beating stronger than ever.

🐾 Family Fun & Entertainment

The showgrounds were buzzing with activity for all ages:

  • 🐶 Dog Show with fan-favourite classes like Waggiest Tail
  • 🎠 Light Horse and Pony classes, with Shetland ponies returning in force
  • 🎪 Kids’ Zone with crafts, balloon art, and face painting
  • 🎤 Live Music Stage – a brand new addition
  • 💪 Open Tug o’ War and School Relay Races

The Main Ring roared with excitement as Dangerous Steve wowed the crowd with fire stunts, quad bikes, and daring tricks.

🎓 Rural Education in Action

The Educational Dome Marquee returned bigger than ever, featuring:

  • 🐏 Live Sheep Shearing Demos
  • 🔧 Crook Making & traditional skills
  • 🌾 Field to Fork exhibits

It was a hit with families and schools, offering hands-on learning and insight into Scotland’s rural industries.

👏 Farewell from the President

Outgoing President Jean MacKay shared her gratitude in a heartfelt farewell message:

“This is my last show as President and it has been an honour—made even more special being the 200th anniversary year.”

Jean hands the reins over to incoming President William Lambie, who will guide the show into its next chapter.
